Corrections
How we handle errors, how to report one, and a public log of every correction we publish.
Last updated
Accuracy matters most on a site about money and homes. When we get something wrong, we want to know, we fix it, and we say so in public. This page explains how.
How to report an error
If you think a guide contains a mistake or an outdated fact, please tell us:
- Use the contact page and choose the topic “Report an error or outdated fact”, or
- Email hello@themortgageguidehub.com.
It helps us move faster if you include:
- The address (URL) of the page.
- The sentence, number or table row you think is wrong.
- Why you think it is wrong, and a link to an official source if you have one.
You do not need to be a mortgage expert to report an error. If something is unclear, that is useful to hear too.
What happens next
Here is what happens after you send a report:
- We confirm we got it. We usually reply within two business days.
- We check the source. The editorial team compares the guide with the official source, such as a HUD handbook, a VA circular or the Fannie Mae Selling Guide.
- We fix confirmed errors. We aim to correct confirmed errors within five business days.
- We note the correction. We add a note at the foot of the guide and list it in the log below.
- We check other languages. Because each guide may exist in several languages, we check and fix every language version that has the same error.
If we find the guide was already correct, we will tell you why and point you to the source.
How corrections are labelled
Every published correction shows:
- the date of the correction
- what changed, in plain words (for example, “We corrected the upfront fee from X to Y”)
- where relevant, the source that confirms the correct figure
The note appears at the foot of the guide, and the same note is added to the log on this page.
Updates versus corrections
Not every change is a correction. We separate them like this:
| Type of change | What it means | How it is shown |
|---|---|---|
| Correction | We published something that was wrong when we published it | Dated note on the guide and an entry in the log below |
| Update | The guide was right, but a program rule or figure has since changed, such as new annual loan limits | New “updated” date on the guide |
| Review | We re-checked the guide against its sources, with or without changes | New “reviewed” date on the guide |
Small fixes such as typos or broken links that do not change meaning are made without a correction note.
Corrections log
No corrections have been published yet as of October 2026. When we correct a guide, the date, the page and a short description of what changed will be listed here.
